Yeah - but mine even completely stops sometimes. Does anyone go for long period without breathing at all? Kind of scarey. Then I go through a series of gasping, poundings and palps just to catch up.

Yes, I have noticed this. In fact in addition to that I noticed that while taking my pulse, my heartbeat gets faster as I inhale, and then slower while I exhale until I inhale again.

When I am having bad chest pains it is totally impossible for me to breath deeply at all. I have trouble even getting any air. And after the episode is over, and I finally think maybe I'm not having a heart attack after all I can start breathing a little deeper without the knifing pains, but then my heart is left just feeling sore.

lindahazz - I know what you mean about the gasping/can't breathe thing.. Do you "pant" or get short of breath before that happens? Its very annoying, and I wondered if I was hyperventilating and maybe setting off a panic attack, coz sometimes it feels like I am blocked/choking a little on the right side of my neck. I usually feel faint and or pass out at this point. Just another yucky dysautonomia symptom. BTW am taking Fluorinef and loads of salt/water and havent had an attack in 2 days (4 days since I started the Fluorinef/water/salt thing) Was having 6-7 of these things a day... perhaps that might help you? Hey Caroline, I have been doing a lot of exercise over the past 8 months (vigorous yoga) so my bouts of SOB and gasping are greatly minimized. I also take digoxin for the arrythmia which also helps keep the breathing under control. I am one of the very lucky ones who doesn't get panic/anxiety attacks. My mother gets them periodically and they are very scarey and unnerving to watch. I can't imagine what it's like to have one. I drink lots of ice water everyday - keeps the palps and poundings down to a low roar. I have to be careful with the salt - too much causes those horrible poundings that wake me out of my sleep. What worries me is the long periods that I go without breathing at all. When I realize I'm not breathing I have to take a huge breath to catch up. Then the palps and poundings dog me till things settle down. Linda

interesting - just holded my breath for 40 seconds - nothing, even didn't feel need to take a very deep breath after that, heartbeeat whether didn't accelerate at all or accelerated just a bit - can't tell, but as I discribed in other topic - symptoms are 90% like yours, so what is different ?
