Where do you get the strenghts.
I was really really good except when it came to putting away the leftovers and pooped 2 more brownies in my mouth. I've been on the toilet all day. So there, God is punishing me. I haven't had this kind of stomach virus in years. IT"S A SIGN! I know it.
I also was writing you guys a note on Friday and my computer crashed so it's so good to be back! I really missed not checking in even for 2 days it was like I lost my best friend!

I don't have that much strength. I'm afraid of the symptoms I'll get if I chow down a bucketful of M & Ms or a wagon full of brownies. I really want them, too! So to stop myself from eating that stuff, I convince myself that something bad will happen to me if I eat those things (like I'll suffer an anxiety attack with fullblown palpitations right in the middle of the candy store!!) But, maybe now you've gotten it out of your system for a while. You ate them and now you're spending your morning writing emails from your laptop while sitting on the toilet! See what you get for being bad? I suppose on the plus side, you may lose a pound of two from spending all of that time on the toilet! And, while you're sitting in the bathroom, you can't eat any more brownies (well...you probably could but we don't want to know about it!!!) Anyway, today's a new day. Just make it through today being good and tomorrow will be even easier. You can do it. If I can, anyone cal!

Hi Tina,
I see you have a 13 year old daughter. My girl will be 13 in February. I see my daughter is sensitive to sugar already. Last month she had PMS definately two days before her period. She is rather moody at other times also. Is your daughter ever moody?

Well, what I'm getting from the responses is that I have 2 choices: remain on the beta blockers and continue to gain weight or stop the Toprol and maybe lose the pounds I've put on. Somehow, it doesn't seem fair. But I'm so unhappy and depressed that I've begun to gain the weight that took me so long to take off, that I don't know what to do. I'm sure some of you may think this is really silly. Why stop taking a medication that seems to provide some relief from this just because you gained some weight? Well, when you've fought your weight for as long as I have, and you've finally reached a point where you are happy with how you look, you don't want to go back to where you once started. My doctor indicated I could discontinue taking the Toprol and see if the symptoms came back. And if they did, I could resume taking the medication. I really hate to do that, though. Just waiting for the symptoms to increase will most certainly make it happen. I'm afraid I'll begin having panic attacks again just in anticipation of increased symptoms. I was wondering if it was the Zoloft causing the weight gain. But from what I've read so far on this site, it appears the Toprol is the culprit. Well, thanks for letting me vent. I was frustrated and depressed and had to let it out. Thanks!

Day 2 and I'm dog sick. Thanks! I don't want to look at another sweet for years!
My daughter is very bright and sensitive but her strongest trate is her independence. She has had her period for 2 years this coming March , not regular at all but I have noticed definate PMS systoms, temper and sweettooth before her period. I see it comming a mile away. So funny you should ask.
Got to run .....thanks allot Princess!

Hello, I am new here today and I just need to post some things to get them off my mind/chest (or at least try to!).

I have been taking meds for my MVP for almost 16 years now. I started with Tenormin and Lanoxin and switched 5-6 years ago to only Toprol xl. I started with 25mg and now have been raised to 100mg a day. My weight never went above 155 lbs. I was 119 lbs. before having children and starting the meds and 155 lbs after having children. After starting the meds I have slowly inched up to an awful 247 lbs. as of today at the docs. I am 5'3". I am at a point now that if my heart doesn't get me, the weight will!! It is really starting to scare me.

My doc wants me to back off the Toprol to see if it is the cause of my newest complaint. Headrushes! They have gradually gotten more intense throughout the last 4 years. My hearing and vision are affected before they ease up now. But it is only after I have been sitting a while and go to stand up.

I have had other symptoms and I wonder if anyone else has had them. Tingling in my skin on my back, my hands and arms go to sleep a lot at night, back spasms at night, numbness in my legs when standing, and carpal tunnel syndrome for the last 5-6 years. Also I have had vertigo and dizziness in the past. Doctors say there are no causes or reasons for any of these things! But I cannot believe that I have that weird of a body to just do these things! There are other symptoms that I did not list too. I stand by the fact that I think it is the meds!!!

I am nervous about coming off the medication as in the past it has not proven to be a successful venture! In fact it is quite terrible and I feel as though I am dying. The doc wanted me off the meds by the weekend and the pharmacist said no way!!! He (the pharmacist) suggested going a lot slower.

I am saying alot of prayers and am going to take it very slow. Hopefully I can trick my body into not noticing!! Any thoughts, opinions, suggestions??? I wanted to lose the weight so very badly, for that reason I want to come off the medication, but the symptoms can be bad! I am scared for that part!

The whole time I have been taking the meds I have to defend it to my family, always! They think the doctors are crazy and don't know what they are doing. They say "can't you just deal with a few skips?" "These meds are going to kill you." So it is hard to take what the doctors tell me to take when I have to. Now that they want me to try to back off, obviously, my family (Mother, sisters, husband etc...) is happy! My Mom said "you don't need to be on that stuff anyway!" They don't want to hear what the doctors say when I have ekg's, echo's, stress tests, and all the other things that they put you through and actually give it a name of what I have!!! It is so frustrating!!! Heaven forbid that I should complain about the medication! Then they (the family) jump all over it and start telling me how bad it is! I know the meds are not good for a person, but there are times that one has to take them!! And the support would be nice at those times. Sorry to go on, but I am about to burst!! I would like nothing better than to get off of this medication, get my body back and not have anymore heart skips, palps, racing, etc...

Does anyone else out there have this to deal with???

Anyways back to the topic. Yes I have gained a lot of weight on this medication! It stinks!!! Regardless of what I eat or do to exercise, the weight just keeps creeping up!

HELP!!!

Thank you so much for your information. My doctor did suggest a neurologist to me yesterday if coming off the medication did not do anything to help the situation.
I will check out the information you supplied. I just want answers.

I have been on Toprol for 8 years and have gained about 20 lbs. I have always kept a check on n=my weight but it is very hard to lose. And yes, Toprol slows your heart rate and everyhing else down. I am a nurse and was talking to other nurses who said the same thing. Oh well!!!

I have gained almost ten pounds also from taking toprol and prozac. I have tried to quit the prozac but then it interferes with my sleep.

I also gained weight on Toprol. I could hardly move I was so tired. I felt like crap all the time (25 mg) and also it didn't do a thing for me. I finally just went off of it, and when I started coming out of the fog from it, it was as if I had been poisoned. It was definitely not the drug for me. My palps have basically stopped (now anyway) with an adjustment in my hormone replacement. I am working on getting off the weight. It's going slowly (I'm 53) but it's going and that's all I care about. Occasionally (like yesterday at a party) I slip up and eat all wrong, and today I feel really crummy from all the crud/sugary stuff. It reminds me how good I CAN feel if I'm careful. So far today, I've eaten just right, and I will continue to do so. I want my energy back. Tomorrow it'll be back if I'm careful. It really is a blessing not to lie down at night and feel my heart pounding out of my chest. All along it was the HRT (too strong) causing the craziness with my MVPS. If you are nearing menopause or in it, you should have your blood tested to check your hormone levels with a GYN. An imbalance DEFINITELY affects heart palps.

Kalisa, all I can suggest to you is what works for me with weight. It's a pretty good, healthy, low sugar diet: Nutrisystem. I started on it in October, and I've lost 14 lbs. I'm 53 years old, so losing weight isn't easy. Also I really only need to lose 30 lbs. so it's going to take awhile. If I weighed more I'd lose it faster. Also, I have to get more exercise. I know that, and I'm planning on it this week. They have a glycemically balanced diet. I feel GREAT when I follow it closely, and the weight really will go off. I just did it online: http://www.nutrisystem.com

At least you can check into the website. There are some very helpful people on the support boards there.

I also gained my weight on Toprol.
