Yes, I'd like to get off Toprol, too, but not because of weight gain. I hate the hair loss thing! I'm scared to get off it b/c I have PVCs and am afraid they'll turn into VTach if I don't take a Beta blocker.

Hello MVPS members...I do not have MVPS, but was searching the net for info on TOPROL. I had been on that garbage since Oct 2003 and wound up in CICU on a few occasions for various arythmias. Since taking TOPROL I have felt awful, and have been gaining weight like crazy, despite no real change in diet. Also, I noticed a big loss of hair. Last week I said screw it and stopped taking it. My cardiologist would have a cow if he knew but I am determined to get this crap out of my system. Already I feel much better and I CAN THINK AGAIN!!!! Toprol is dangerous. I was on TOPROL XL 25 mg. Best wishes to all who read this. Cheers. Danny

My cardio won't admit to Toprol causing weight gain or hair loss. When I expressed my concern over the weight gain since taking the Toprol, he just say's "I don't think so". Beta blockers also cause a decrease in HDL cholesterol (the good cholesterol). I also confronted him with this, but he said he never heard of that. I have checked on many medical web sites about beta blockers and cholesterol and they all state that beta blockers can lower HDL.
