Are you taking the inhaled type for asthma? My daughter takes inhaled asthma medications, and she's only 3, but they make her VERY hyper and nervous-acting. My doctor wanted to give me inhaled asthma meds, but I said no way as they can give you tachycardia. If you are really suffering with asthma symptoms, it may be worth it to you, but I fear the tachy more than I fear breathing problems and I don't have a bad case of asthma.

Acutally its for me because I have had an ocular headache for over 5 days and i have too much pressure in my ears so its making me really dizzy.. its the pill type he wants me to take 6 pills the first day 5 the second and so on.... I can barely get myself to take an excedrine lol let alone 6 pills of steriods... i just feel like its my only option this is the second doc to prescribe me steroids the first time i didn't even take em.. my doctor is actually on the prednisone himself right now and when i asked her will it interfere with my heart i kinda got that "weeelllll" answer... i hate that..

WELLLLLLLL. I'd be hesitant, too. I was told to take the pill type once and couldn't bring myself to take all 6 so I took one. (Don't tell anyone.) Anyway that one did such a number on my stomach.... that answered the question for me. My tummy doesn't handle a lot of meds. I keep hoping they come up with "patches" for everything.....Maybe then I can get some help. (Sorry for the tangent.)

Taking prednisone the way you describe is called a "prednisone burst". I have taken it this way on several occasions for a sinus infection without a problem. It's when you have to take it for a longer period of time in large doses that it may give you some trouble. The prednisone burst is usually given for 5 - 7 days and tapered off as you go along.

I took it once for my eustachian tube dysfunction and it made my heart beat so fast. I felt out of breath all the time and my energy level was over the top. My son told me that it is a steriod and it's purpose it to increase cardiac output. I quit taking it and will never take it again.
I would rather have plugged up ears.

I hate prednisone. We're all different, but for me taking more than 4 pills a day makes my life hell. It makes me anxious and puts my heart up there at about 120 BPM. Then after a few days as I taper down I have mild depression. It's not uncommon, the nurse at my doctor ended up in the ER the last time she was on prednisone due to a panic attack and she didn't even have MVP or anxiety problems. Part of the reason I recently decided to have sinus surgery was to avoid the courses of prednisone my doc gives me when I have a sinus infection...

This stuff is basically cortisone, the bodies stress hormone. It does a fantastic job at reducing inflammation, but it also basically puts a chemical in your body that tells it to get ready to fight or run. As long as you know what to expect, it should be tolerable and not everyone reacts to it the same, but just be prepared.
